Stubb, Støre discuss Ukraine truce with Trump, Zelensky over phone

President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre on Friday held telephone conversations with US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a dinner of Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) leaders in Oslo.

They discussed the situation in Ukraine and prospects for a 30-day ceasefire, according to the social media posts of the leaders.

“During the JEF Leaders’ dinner I, together with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre initiated calls with Donald Trump Zelenskyy respectively. We discussed the situation in Ukraine and prospects for a 30-day ceasefire,” Stubb wrote in a post on his social media platform X.

He also said that things are moving.

Jonas Gahr Støre also wrote in his X about the telephone conversations.

“During the JEF Leaders dinner President Stubb and I initiated calls with President Trump and President Zelenskyy respectively,” he wrote adding that they discussed the situation in Ukraine and prospects for a 30-day ceasefire.

Zelenskyy in his X wrote about working together to achieve a ceasefire – one that is solid and lasting, for at least 30 days and Ukraine is ready.

“I spoke with President Trump yesterday (Thursday). Our European friends also spoke with him. We’re all on the same page: there must be a full ceasefire,” he added.

Stubb attended the JEF Leaders’ Summit in Oslo on Thursday and Friday.

The topics of the summit was JEF support to Ukraine, the security situation in Europe and the potential to further JEF cooperation, for example in the Arctic.

Representatives from all ten countries involved in JEF defence cooperation took part in the summit hosted by Jonas Gahr Støre.

The Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) is a multilateral framework for defence cooperation led by the United Kingdom. In addition to the UK, the other participants are Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden.
