Fire, smoke seen after 2 huge blasts in Pakistan's Rawalpindi

Fire and smoke were seen near an airbase after two huge blasts took place early Saturday in Pakistan's garrison city of Rawalpindi in eastern Punjab province, near the capital Islamabad, reported Xinhua.

Xinhua correspondent witnessed two blasts taking place with a gap of minutes, followed by fire and huge smoke near an airbase in Rawalpindi.

Rescue teams, police and security forces rushed to the site. There is no report of casualties in the blasts.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and started an investigation into the explosions.

The nature of the blasts is not known yet.

An eyewitness told Xinhua that two drone-like projectiles came near the airbase, which were shot down by guns. However, there is no official word about it yet

Meanwhile, India launched air-to-surface missiles at three airbases of Pakistan, including the Noor Khan Airbase of Rawalpindi near Islamabad, a spokesperson of the Pakistani army said.
