The northern and eastern parts of Finland witnessed a massive snowfall on Sunday afternoon, Finnish weather forecasting company Foreca said.
Earlier on the day, the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) forecast the snowfall in the northern part of the country.
The FMI also forecast rain in the southern and central parts and the rain will be slightly snowier in some places due to cool temperature.
Massive snowfall took place in Salla area under Lapland region and Kuusamo area under North Ostrobothnia region, said Foreca.
About 20 centimetres to 30 centimetres snow was recorded in Kuusamo and Salla areas on Sunday and Salla received a total of 40 centimetres snow from Saturday night.
Meanwhile, the temperatures remained unusually cool in the southern part of the country and mercury may fall further to below zero degree Celsius all over the country in the next few nights.
The daytime temperature on Monday will be close to zero degree in Lapland, 1 degree Celsius to 5 degrees Celsius in the eastern and northern parts and 4 degrees Celsius to 9 degrees Celsius in the western part of the country, said Foreca.
