Life expectancy reaches to record high but infant mortality rises last year

Provisional life expectancy at birth was 79,6 years for boys and 84.8 years for girls in Finland in 2024, according to Statistics Finland.

Compared to 2023, life expectancy grew for boys by 0.7 years and for girls by 0.6 years.

The number of deaths in Finland in 2024 was 58,267, which is 3,072 fewer than one year earlier.

The number of deaths fell by five per cent from the previous year and the general mortality rate went down by 5.3 per cent from the year before.

Infant mortality went up slightly from the year before.
