The President and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy on Friday stated that the Defence Forces will continue to provide training support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine with approximately 20 persons, said the government in a press release.
The committee at meeting discussed the current efforts to end Russia’s war of aggression and achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
The meeting discussed the provision of training support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine through the UK-led Operation Interflex.
It also discussed Finland’s Host Nation Support, which plays an important role in ensuring that NATO and Allied forces can operate in Finland. Host Nation Support requires Finland to improve cooperation across sectors and authorities in line with the total defence approach, to deepen its cooperation with Allies and to update its contractual arrangements.
Finland’s membership in NATO means that total defence support is being extended beyond the Finnish Defence Forces’ troops to Allied forces operating in the territory of Finland, the committee observed .
Meanwhile, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs on Friday outlined Finland’s positions on several initiatives aiming to strengthen European defence, said a government press release.
The committee at a meeting also discussed measures to improve the security of submarine cables and EU financing for transport projects in the next financial framework period.
