Birth rate remains lower than death in Finland

The number of births was 4,271 lower than that of deaths in Finland in January-March period, according to Statistics Finland.

Country's population was 5,640,437 at the end of March 2025.

During January–March population increased by 4,466 persons. The reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad. The number of immigrants was 7,166 higher than that of emigrants.

According to preliminary data by region, the population grew most in Uusimaa, Pirkanmaa and Southwest Finland in January to March 2025. In all, the population increased in eight regions and decreased in eleven regions.

The population increased most in Uusimaa. Total net migration was highest in Uusimaa, Pirkanmaa and Southwest Finland.
