President Alexander Stubb on Saturday expressed his solidarity with the proposal for a full and unconditional 30-day ceasefire with Russia starting Monday.
Stubb made remark at meeting where he joined virtually with leaders of the "coalition of the willing," an initiative led by Britain and France in support of Ukraine.
“Progress towards ceasefire and peace process in Ukraine at today’s Leaders’ meeting. Strong leadership of E3 Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, Friedrich Merz, Zelenskyy and Donald Tusk. Unity on unconditional 30-day ceasefire as of Monday. If not followed, a wave of new sanctions, closely coordinated with US,” the President wrote in a post on his social media platform X.
He also said that ceasefire to be complemented by monitoring mechanism and followed immediately by negotiations for peace agreement.
“Important to work together with the US,” Stubb added in his post.
The 30-day proposal came during the high-level joint visit to Kiev by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The leaders held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump.
The meeting on Ukraine was a follow-up to the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing chaired by Macron in Paris on 27 March 2025.
