FC Bayern Munich have confirmed that England defender Eric Dier will not renew his contract and leave the designated Bundesliga champions in summer, reported dpa.
Sporting director Christoph Freund told reporters on Friday that they wanted to renew with Dier, who has been linked with a move to French league club Monaco.
Dier arrived in January 2024 from Tottenham Hotspur and has featured in 45 matches for them, scoring two goals. he has seen lots of playing time lately because several other defenders are injured.
"We had discussions with Eric about a new contract. He told us that he doesn't want to extend and will leave us," Freund said.
"He's a great guy. We had a great time together. He also felt very much at home here in Munich and at the club. Hopefully he crowns his time with us with his first title."
Bayern will clinch a 34th German title, and 33rd in the Bundesliga era, if they win at RB Leipzig on Saturday, or if second-placed Bayer Leverkusen fail to win at Freiburg on Sunday.
Freund said that they offered Dier a two-year extension but admitted that "there was another opportunity where he can sign an even longer contract."
Sources told dpa that Monaco are offering a three-year deal, and a lucrative salary.
Freund said it was not decided yet if Dier would stay a little longer and play for Bayern at the June 14-July 13 Club World Cup in the United States.
Freund said that signing Germany defender Jonathan Tah on a free transfer from Leverkusen was "not an issue" at the moment because they first want to clinch the title and then start planning for 2025-26.
"I hope we won't have as many injuries in defence next season," Freund added.
He also highlighted that despite injuries of Hiroki Ito, Dayot Upamecano and Alphonso Davies "we've also conceded the fewest goals in the Bundesliga. The guys have done well."
